The City’s Faure and Steenbras Water Treatment Plants (WTP) excelled with above-average quality drinking water according to the 2023 Blue Drop Watch Report that was released by the National Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) on Tuesday 6 June.
The Blue Drop Watch Report focuses mainly on the technical site assessments of drinking water systems conducted during the Blue Drop Audits. The report also draws attention to the condition of the drinking water infrastructure, treatment processes and water quality – from a technical perspective.
“As part of the Blue Drop Audit, the Faure and Steenbras Water Treatment Plants (WTP) were assessed. The Faure WTP achieved the highest score in the country of 98% for the technical site assessment and the Steenbras WTP achieved a score of 93%. Both City WTPs also achieved top scores related to the condition of the drinking water infrastructure. We also achieved excellent compliance against the South African National Drinking Water Standard (SANS241:2015) for both microbiological and chemical categories,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee member for water and sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
