Meet the SAIWW Founder
Walter Mokoena, the founder and executive Chairman of South Africa International Water Week, is a media personality and a social entrepreneur who has shifted his focus from broadcasting to addressing one of the country’s most critical challenges – water security and governance.
Leveraging his communication skills, public profile and deep concern for community upliftment, Mokoena is now a key advocate for sustainable water solutions and inclusive water-sector reform.
After completing his training in International Water Business Management and Infrastructure – including exposure to global leaders like the French water utility SUEZ – Mokoena founded the South Africa International Water Week (SAIWW).
This platform is designed to bring together government, private sector, researchers, investors, and communities to collaborate on solutions to South Africa’s worsening water crisis.
His water-focused initiatives include :
- South Africa International Water Week (SAIWW) – a cross-sectoral platform that hosts forums, policy discussions, and innovation showcases.
- Advocacy and Awareness: Mokoena actively uses his media background to elevate public dialogue on water scarcity, failing infrastructure, and climate resilience — pushing for systemic change through policy influence and public engagement.
